Arthur Rainville | The Five Ateleirs

Arthur Rainville - The Five Ateleirs

Course Description:
If you are searching for new answers for your photography, your business or your personal soul – you need to spend this special time with our resident Alchemist Arthur Levi Rainville.

Arthur will offer a whirlwind week of Art and Heart inspiration and emotion. His poignant stories and private encouragements will set the stage for self-exploration. Drawing from his poetic, evocative Mansuesco style, he will lead you through inventive creative photographic sessions that will set the tone by adhering to a simple credo: “an artist’s job is to deepen the mystery.” You will compose images via Arthur’s fabled masterpieces called “Allegorie.” These Gestalt inspired classics, steeped in romantic overtones, will serve as a muse for your visual imagery.

Arthur will offer his Five Ateliers (artist’s studios) as a way to breakdown and attend to the elements of making more beautiful and meaningful portraiture.

The First Atelier will reveal Technique – from a reinterpretation of Caravaggio’s Chiaroscuro to cutting-edge digital intrigues.

The Second Atelier will explore Aesthetic – from creating the lost profundity of Vermeer to reinterpreting art for today’s savvy consumers.

The Third Atelier will make it Personal – discovering your private inner strength to create deeper imagery.

The Fourth Atelier will touch Spiritual – understanding the power of outside forces on your work.

The Fifth Atelier will offer Alchemy – Alchemy was known as the spagyric art after Greek words meaning to separate and to join together. You will celebrate your Visual Journey and marry it with a new mysticism for an exciting visual signature style.

This reawakening visionary will offer an artistic fusion of ideas designed to guide your imagery to a heightened sense of wonder.

Arthur will play with your mind, tug at your heart and return you to your world changed forever. If you need to add new energy to your photography and income to your business, not to mention a little sigh to your life - this is the class for you.

About Arthur:
ArthurLeviRainville, M.Photog., Cr., API, CPP has been called, “…one of photography’s premier creative minds.”

Arthur Levi Rainville, M.Photog., Cr., API, CPP has worked out of his decorous studio in historic Whitinsville, Massachusetts for 40 years. He is widely known for his soft, muted, granular color work. Refinements of this life’s passion lead to his lyrical, quixotic Mansuesco style of today. Defying a definable formula, Mansuesco, much like Impressionism, is a plurality of looks. An innate quality of light coupled with a compositional choreography is akin to his signature style. In a one-man show at the French Cultural Center, his work was astutely referred to as “…a synthesis of observation and imagination blended with a palette of gauzy colors.” Returning photographic portraiture to a high art form is his muse.

Currently teaching Portrait Studies and revered Artist in Residence at Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University, Arthur has taught portraiture professionally on three continents, inspiring the budding or seasoned photographer for 25 years - he has launched many notable photographers of our time.

Sought after for Keynote presentations at Professional Photographers of America, Wedding Portrait Photographers International and Society of Photographic Educators national conventions, Arthur always offers his unique brand of success – from the Art and the Heart. His weeklong classes at Texas School, West Coast School, New England Institute and Image Explorations in Victoria, Canada are sellouts year after year.

He is a prolific author with three published books on the Creative Spirit and numerous articles yearly in national magazines. Arthur continues to spread the word that Style matters. Besides being a noted touring lecturer he has Fine Art work being shown throughout the United States, South America and Europe. Having been called… ‘one of photography’s premier creative minds’… he currently offers private consultations and enrichment workshops throughout the Americas and European destinations.

His time is devoted and divided between personal portrait commissions, private consultancy and education and his on-going experiential art studies.

Jack Davis | Beyond the Capture: Instant Enhancing in Lightroom and Photoshop

Beyond the Capture: Instant Enhancing in Lightroom and Photoshop

with Jack Davis

Just as in the days of the wet darkroom, the storytelling process doesn’t stop in the camera, but only when the image is incarnated into something that can be viewed and shared in all its intended glory. And now more than ever the capability to mold imagery, to create art, to tell stories and move viewers, that would never be possible in camera alone, is limitless.

With the very latest versions of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw and Adobe Lightroom, there is the ability to do this digital alchemy almost effortlessly – and nondestructively, with an incredible amount of creative flexibility. And what is truly amazing is the ability to share this image Optimizing and Enhancing instantly with dozens of other photographs.

“If you do it once, figure out how to never have to do it again” is this class’ first mantra!

And the second mantra is equally a lifesaver: “Never use Photoshop for something you can do faster, better and easier in Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw” - and that includes everything from quick global image optimizing to targeted detail enhancing: like dodging and burning, blemish retouching, skin softening and even hand tinting. And when you do need Photoshop, automate the process as much as possible. You don’t get extra brownie points for doing things the long way.

This session will cover the latest and greatest Adobe tools and techniques for quickly and easily (and nondestructively) enhancing your photography - and then how to automatically share that enhancing between multiple images with Presets, Smart Filter Recipes and Actions.

Tim Mathiesen | School Photography - What's in it for you?

School Photography………

What’s in it for YOU!

Tim Mathiesen’s week long class will cover what it takes to enter the very lucrative underclass school market.  The primary curriculum will cover pre-K through the 6th grade.  Middle school and high school classes will be discussed, but the majority of the program will cover the grammar school grades.

During the week, extensive exercises will involve each WCS student in every step of a typical photographing day.  The actual time photographing school children is minimal when compared to the preparation and post-photography steps to complete each school.  Emphasis will placed on planning, contracts, software and communications.  The actual process of photography will also be covered.  We will also cover the marketing and promotional aspects of school photography.  We will also discuss the merits of using a professional lab vs. in-house for finishing your school work.

Also during the week, we will also examine and test the process of “Green Screen” photography. This exciting process gives the studio the opportunity to offer multiple backgrounds without carrying several backgrounds to the school.  This process requires very precise lighting and software.  During the week, we will give each WSC student an opportunity to create samples that can be used to promote this technology for your schools.

Groups will be a very special part of the class.  We will discuss the various ways of handling small, medium and large groups.  We, as a class, will have an opportunity to photography groups of different sizes.

Tim has worked in and owned studios that photographed up to 750,000 students per year. Tim will also discuss how to compete with the national studios that are everywhere.  He will cover the demographics and how to locate schools in your area.

Even if you are just photographing one or two schools, or you are up to your neck in grammar school students, this course will give you new insight in the exciting grammar school market.
